Rizq Naherta reclaimt de Southeast Asian bootleg shop en transformeert die op de Sint-Paulusplaats tot een platform voor de herverdeling van queer kennisproductie. Hun installatie fungeert als een winkel die (voornamelijk Zuidoost-Aziatische) queer bootleg-films redistribueert én als een fysiek archief. Je kan een film inwisselen tegen fysiek geld of tegen een queer verhaal dat verband houdt met de geselecteerde film, of je kan gewoon grasduinen in deze unieke verzameling of gesprekken voeren over film. Zo onstaat een plek die wij als queer festival zeer waarderen: een plaats waar mensen elkaar kunnen ontmoeten en die uitnodigt tot verbinding.

Rizq Naherta reclaims the Southeast Asian bootleg shop and transforms it on Sint-Paulusplein into a platform for the redistribution of queer knowledge production. Their installation functions as a store that redistributes (mainly Southeast Asian) queer bootleg films as well as a physical archive. You can exchange a film for physical cash or for a queer story related to the selected film, or you can simply browse this unique collection or have conversations about film. This creates a place that we as a queer festival value highly: a place where people can meet and that invites connection.

Hunter Claes, Lize Maekelberg en Vural Saglam kon je al tegenkomen bij eerdere edities van AQAF, in ons residentieprogramma voor jonge makers. Nu zetten we dat verhaal verder, met een erg diverse groepstentoonstelling.

You could already meet Hunter Claes, Lize Maekelberg and Vural Saglam at previous editions of AQAF, in our residency program for young creators. Now we are continuing that story, with a very diverse group exhibition.

Kat Staub - sick talking, ghost stalking

Kat Staub had onze aandacht meteen met 'ecosexual survival-burlesque service', en overtuigde ons definitief met ‘a soft spot between slutty yearning and soft revolting’. Kats solo-performance is uitbundig en punky, die op intieme en flamboyante wijze een ruimte biedt om te rouwen om wat we verloren hebben. Zogenaamde hysterische vrouwen of heksen, vergeten queers, boze mannen en bezeten kinderen beïnvloeden hun experimentele DIY cabaret.

Kat Staub had us at ‘ecosexual survival-burlesque service’, and decisively tipped the verdict in her favor with ‘a soft spot between slutty yearning and soft revolting’. Kat’s performance is an exuberant and punky one-person work that through intimacy and flamboyancy offers a space to mourn losses. So-called mad women or witches, forgotten queers, angry men and possessed children influence their experimental DIY cabaret.

Hoe queer je de oude levenswijzes van piraten en hoe pas je ze toe in de huidige maatschappij? Omdat deze vraag ons al zo lang achtervolgt als we ons herinneren, hebben we Rita Bifulco en Reyer Van Barneveld uitgenodigd voor een performatief spel, waarbij het onduidelijk is wie de haai is en wie de prooi. De twee non-conformistische matrozen zullen de piratenvlag activeren die het plein voor het MAS stiekem altijd al was - het doodshoofd van Luc Tuymans ligt er tussen de stenen verscholen. Samen toveren ze de plek om tot een schip uit balans.

How to queer old pirate lifestyles and implement them into our current society? Because this question has haunted us for as long as we remember, we invited Rita Bifulco and Reyer Van Barneveld for a performative game, in which it’s unclear who is the shark and who is the prey. The two non-conforming sailors will activate the pirate flag that the square in front of the MAS secretly always was-Luc Tuymans’ Dead Skull is hidden in the stones-and turn it into an unbalanced ship.
